« Somewhere over the rainbow » de Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, plus connu sous le nom de « IZ », est certainement la musique qui a popularisé le ukulele au niveau mondial. On ne la présente plus tellement elle est connue. Reprise de la version originale « Over the rainbow » du Magicien d’Oz, qui était déjà célèbre à l’époque, IZ lui à apporté un renouveau avec une sonorité exotique et un rythme tropicale grâce au ukulele. Elle est quasiment liée à l’instrument. Pour certains c’est surement la première chanson qui leur vient en tête quand on leur parle de ukulele et pour d’autre, celle qu’ils aimeraient apprendre en premier en s’initiant à l’instrument.
